3M SpeedGlas G5-03 Series - Welding Protection

in News

The 3M G5-03 Speedglas model is the 3rd Generation of this series, the new cutting-edge technology and practical enhancements make this series an ideal choice for welders seeking the maximum protection and efficiency on the job.

The G5-03 symbolises decades of constant innovation in welding safety, protection and performance. The fantastic thing about this series, is that the primary focus and end goal is based on user satisfaction and of course safety. 3M are consistently listening to the feedback from their customers, therefore each generation outshines the last which this one does just that.

Some of the unique features the G5-03 series brings to the table is the enhanced auto-darkening filters for extra eye protection and outstanding optics for improved visibility. User focused improved features include reduced weight so your head and back don’t take as much of a strain when in use for long periods of time. Customizable comfort features are available and finally advanced airflow control ensuring all nasty and unwanted particles are removed before inhaling a constant flow of clean air.

What is the main between the G5-01/03TW & the G5-01/03VC welding filter?

Both filters are catered towards specific welding needs. Both incorporate Safety Alert Detection and Evaluation (SADE) levels and Natural Colour Technology for enhanced safety and visual clarity when welding.

The TW variant also known as Tack Weld is purposely made for welding tasks that involve extensive tacking such as small, dot-like welds along the joints length. These are welds made to temporarily hold metal parts in place and often the foundation for welding projects. A lens typically has a clear shade rating of 3EW and when the Tack function is in play this goes up to 5EW which helps protect the welder’s eyes from fast and frequent shifts between extremely bright and dark conditions, this also allows for precision when working on those key small welds.

The VC variant also known as Variable Colour has been made for colour optimisation. This allows welders to adjust the levels of the three primary colours when welding such as red, green and blue in the lens shade. This unique feature means welders have improved visibility and reduced eye strain when welding.

An optional accessories to the G5-03 is the Task Light that’s used to illuminate work piece or to help light up dark working environments for better productivity.

Here you can see a list of some of the other unique changes to the G5-03 Series that we haven’t yet covered.

  1. Tap Functionality: Switch between welding and griding by simply tapping on the side of the helmet. This innovative solution helps eliminate the need to lift up the ADF (Auto-Darkening Filter) upwards to expose the grinding mask.
  2. Adjustable Airflow: If you’re a welder you know that dry eyes, dry mouth or a runny nose is a regular occurrence due to the constant flow of clean air but with the G5-03 series, welders can now adjust the direction and volume of airflow. This gives the welder full control and means they can be more comfortable without being affected by dry eyes or a dry mouth and runny nose.
  3. Improved protection: The G5-03 offers 11% more coverage meaning more protection than the previous helmets and stays within the same price range.
