Hands free communication at distance is proven to increase productivity in the workplace though this is sometimes difficult to manage in high noise level areas. Historically a user would wear a High Attenuating Headset which in turn connected to a Radio on your hip via a cable though this came with its own dangers. Occasionally the cable would get snagged and the radio would often fall from the waist onto the floor incurring further repair fees.
All of this is now a thing of the past since the launch of the 3M™ LiteCom™ series of License Free / Hands Free communication headsets. Out of the box these headsets will allow seamless radio communications for a team of unlimited users whilst reducing the ambient noise levels by over 30db. The LiteCom series is split into 4 models so let’s start at the beginning.
3M™ PELTOR™ LITECOM STANDARD
Though the entry level product this model will perform exactly as one would expect it to. Powered by AA batteries this 8 channel license free and hands free team comms headset will reduce your ambient by over 30db. It is available in a traditional Headband to fit for over the head or alternatively in a Helmet Mount version to clip to your existing helmets.
3M™ PELTOR™ LITECOM PLUS
This model though slightly more expensive than the Standard Litecom is the most popular in the range due to its ‘Active Sound Spatial Awareness’ functionality. By its nature an ear defender / headset will kill all external noise which is great for protecting your hearing but can come with its own dangers if you work within traffic, fork lift trucks, fire alarms without beacons.
The ‘3M™ LiteCom Plus’ has the intelligence to allow low level unharmful noise levels to the user so they are always aware of their surroundings and any potential dangers. As soon as a high impact noise is created the headsets shuts down instantaneously to protect the user. This functionality is called ‘Active Sound Spatial Awareness’ and is essential to be deployed in workplaces with such potential dangers.
The ‘3M™ LiteCom Plus’ also comes with a high capacity battery and charger and once again offer hands free / cable free communications via its 16 license free channels. Consistent with the LiteCom range of products it is available in a traditional Headband to fit for over the head or alternatively in a Helmet Mount version to clip to your existing helmets. This product is often deployed in Manufacturing / Heavy Industry / Construction / Arborists / Waste Management & Recycling.
3M™ PELTOR™ WS LITECOM PLUS
The WS version of the LiteCom Plus is identical in every way to the previous model though also has the functionality of Bluetooth connectivity to your mobile phone allowing external communications as well as your team communications via the built in license free radio. Ideal for site managers or those users who never want to miss an important telephone call.
3M™ PELTOR™ LITECOM PRO III
This model is the top of the tree from 3M. It performs identically to the ‘3M™ Peltor™ WS LiteCom Plus’ though rather than having its team communications via a license free PMR frequency these headsets can be programmed using VHF or UHF which are often required in densely populated areas or workplaces such as industrial estates when license free airwaves can sometimes be congested.
